OAD Productions Presents Battle of the Bands

OAD Productions held its first competition supported by the DCASE Chicago Presents grant. Four competing bands performed live in front of a panel of music industry leaders for cash prizes, podcast episodes, live performance recordings, upcoming gigs, and more! Hosted by Overflow Coffee and live streamed on Live Bash, the evening closed with feature performer Sonic Healing. What a beautiful time of community, coffee, and connection. Shout out to our talented judges, Yung Gotti, Kenyotta Stewart, Vicki Street, and D.Lylez, and congratulations to the winning band, IAMAURIN. More photos coming soon! Columbia College – student film shoot at Overflow Coffee
October 23, 2023Entrenuity, Overflow Coffee, and Mox.E Coworking are excited about our growing relationship with Columbia College. Columbia students are not only frequent customers at Overflow but also serve as employees, student interns, and volunteers. They've done multiple special projects for us, including marketing, merch campaigns, photo exhibits, and more! Columbia will also be hosting an Entrenuity boot camp in February 2024 to engage students in the process of planning and launching their own businesses. It's been a pleasure to work with the talented and creative students from Columbia and to welcome them to our space as they pursue their dreams.

Merch Launch with "Brewed Thoughts and Melodies"

"Brewed Thoughts and Melodies," hosted recently at Overflow Coffee in collaboration with Entrenuity and Columbia College, included a panel discussion, photo installation, and merch launch. The panel discussion, led by Overflow Assistant General Manager Josh Magee, reflected on coffee, the background of the beans used at our shop, and the intersection of art, community, & coffee. The event included the launch of our new merch with a photo installation prepared by Columbia College Artists & Producers. The Columbia team also launched "The Overflow Sessions," a Lo-Fi Hip Hop/R&B project incorporating the sounds & background noise of Overflow Coffee as well as the history of the space through podcast form.
It's been inspiring to work with the talented students from Columbia College and to experience the positive feedback from the community regarding our arts related events. We continually hear, "Overflow is a safe, inclusive space for all ages." We are proud to foster a sense of community where people feel safe and welcomed!

Celebrate National Black Music Month with us!
Historic Record Row in Chicago, Illinois, birthed some of the greatest blues and R&B artists of all time during the 60s and 70s. Vee-Jay Records, located at 1449 S Michigan Ave, was the largest, most successful R&B label of its time. Vee-Jay was followed by several other labels at their former location, most notably Brunswick Records, with legendary producer Carl Davis, who brought us Gene Chandler, Major Lance, Jackie Wilson, The Chi-Lites, and Barbara Acklin. As the current home of Entrenuity NFP, hosting Mox.E Coworking and Overflow Coffee, 1449 S Michigan Ave remains a space for Black excellence to prosper. The building rings with the sound of musical greats from the past and fresh new local talent; the walls are covered with the original art of talented local Black artists and photographers, and the cowork space brims with the energy and creativity of Black entrepreneurs.
