BRAVECAMPS SUMMER 2018

Brave Initiatives expands BraveCamps to four different neighborhoods this summer, including one in Indianapolis, IN.

BraveCamps Summer 2018

Brave Inititatives has had a busy summer offering four different BraveCamps for first time campers. Camps were offered at different three different sites in Chicago, bringing the value of coding skills to the girls in their own neighborhoods. BraveCamps also expanded to Indiana, offering its first camp in Indianapolis. BraveCamps are every day, Monday through Friday from 9am - 5pm, with meals provided, and are free to girls ages 14+. Camp ends with a pitch presentation for parents on Saturday.

BraveCamps support participants in changing their stories about their own abilities as coders, designers, technologists, and change-makers. To do so, the program aims to help spark a curiosity for computer science through building technical self-efficacy. Research suggests that self-efficacy, or one's belief in their abilities to achieve a task, is critical to persistence, emotional responses to stress, and performance. The girls develop lasting friendships with one another and Brave mentors as they work together on projects that are socially impactful and uniquely meaningful according to their personal interests and passions.

Brave offers an app camp for returning campers, which will be held Aug 13-17.
